Fitness For Work
Some roles carry a risk that a general health check will not answer. Our fitness for work medicals assess an individual against the specific demands of the job they do, so you can put someone into a safety-critical role, a cab, or a night shift knowing the decision is defensible.

How Fitness For Work works with OccuMed
"Is he fit for work?" is the wrong question. Fit for what, measured against which standard, decided by whom, and on what evidence?
Your duty under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 is to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare of your employees, and your risk assessments under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 are what identify where individual fitness matters. Some roles then bring their own external standard on top: DVLA Group 2 for lorry and bus drivers, sector schemes, or a standard written into your own contracts. The rest you set yourself.
We build the assessment around the role. That means agreeing the standard first, assessing against it consistently, and giving you an outcome you can act on: fit, fit with adjustments, or not fit for this specific work, with the reasoning you would need if the decision were ever challenged.
- 01
Safety-Critical Medicals
Assessments for working at height, confined space entry, operating heavy plant and machinery, and other roles where sudden incapacity would put the individual or others at risk. Built around your risk assessment rather than a generic template.
- 02
Driver Medicals, D4 and Group 2
Medicals for lorry and bus drivers assessed against DVLA Group 2 standards, including completion of the D4 form. Also available for in-house driving roles such as van fleets and FLT operators, who fall outside DVLA's requirements but not outside your duty of care.
- 03
Night Worker Assessments
Free health assessments for night workers under the Working Time Regulations 1998. We manage the offer, the uptake records and the recall cycle, so your evidence is that every worker was offered an assessment.
- 04
Drug and Alcohol Testing
Workplace testing delivered to your policy, with chain of custody, laboratory confirmation and clear reporting. Pre-employment, random, for-cause and post-incident.
- 05
Return to Work and Role Change
Assessment against role demands after long-term absence, injury or a change of duties, so a return is planned around what the person can actually do.
- 06
Standard Setting
Where no external standard applies, we help you define one: what the role demands, what would constitute a bar, and what adjustments are reasonable. Consistency is what makes these decisions defensible.

In summary
- Put people into safety-critical, driving and night-shift roles with a decision you can stand behind.
- Assessed against the standard the role actually requires, not a generic health check.
- Delivered on your site across the UK, alongside your surveillance clinics.
